Hello my fine watchers . I haven’t done one of these in a while, but I want to get back into the practice of doing regular project updates. As you may have noticed, Mountain Divide updates are chugging right along according to schedule! If you’re new, or just missed out on the schedule, it is as follows:
New Page on Patreon ($5 patreons): Thursday
New Page on Main Website (mountaindivide.thecomicseries.com) (FREE!): Saturday
New Page on DeviantArt: Monday
IMPORTANT! DeviantArt is a page behind the main website and patreon, so if you want the latest and greatest page, you have to go to one of those sources.
I have 57 pages left to draw of the second arc of Mountain Divide (second arc is titled Spotlight...I think) which will also be the planned ending for this run. That means I’ll have finished drawing all the pages for Mountain Divide in October this year. At my current post rate, I won’t finish posting pages until early 2019 (I know, way future talk!) .
With the light at the end of the tunnel in full view, I’ve started thinking about what to do next. I have another arc of Mountain Divide I’d like to write and draw, but I also want to give Unfledged (Lisa, Ambrose, and Ti), some love. What I am thinking I might do, is dive into Unfledged as soon as I finish drawing this arc of Mountain Divide. That would put a launch date around October 2018 (so I would be posting updates of both Unfledged and Mountain Divide for at least a couple months).
The encour arc of Mountain Divide is planned in my head and I want to write and draw it (honestly I could probably write and draw with Mountain Divide into infinity). I haven’t decided what to do with it yet. It would be hard to drawing for both Mountain Divide and Unfledged at the same time. I’ve been writing for Unfledged while I’m drawing Mountain Divide, but drawing concurrently would be much more difficult. I might do batch updates for subsequent Mountain Divide arcs. So rather than getting a page a week, you’d get twenty pages every couple of months. Or maybe even a full arc post??? That would be a full 40 to 60 pages, but only once a year. This is over a year out so I’m just spit balling right now. Anyone who wants to weigh in, I’m open to suggestions! I wanted Mountain Divide to have clean ending after this arc, but I don’t want to let go of the story
All that being said, I do have plans for the more immediate future. I am going to rehaul my patreon. Some of you maybe aware, I set up my patreon a while ago, but I haven’t really done much with it. That will end June 1st! I will be rewriting my reward levels with a lot of fun monthly goodies! Most importantly, I’ll be doing a patreon only double page posting event which will result in Patreon being four pages ahead of the main website and five pages ahead of DeviantArt.
I’ve been trying to work out a way to make this fair to everyone. As far as pages go, everyone will get to see the pages for free, eventually. Patreons will be able to see pages earlier, but if you are patient, you will always get a chance to see pages for free. I will also bring down the price to see pages through patreon from $5 to $1 a month. I will also start doing month downloadable content for the various donation levels. I will also start doing Unfledged content on Patreon. The downloads will be patreon only, although I might post heavily edited versions for free on DeviantArt. I haven’t decided yet.
I want this to be fair. I want patreons to get something special, but I don’t want to put my content behind a paywall either. After all, this is a free webcomic, but at the same time, I’m buying a house (yay ) and I’m currently not bringing in any money with my art. I found a gallery that will pay me to teach classes, but that would mean I have to cut back on the webcomics, etc. I don’t want to do that! So I’m going to take another swing at this patreon thing and I opened commissions. If I can meet or beat the price I’m being offered by the gallery I’ll be able to dedicated 100% of my art time to making fun stuff for the internet, but if I can’t I’m going to have to cut back and start working with the gallery.
So that’s everything going on in CuriousDoodler land right now. Any question, comments, or suggestions are more than welcomed! I’m going to try to start doing these updates on a weekly-ish basis again.
I'm a full time scientist and part time artist. I enjoy pursuing interesting questions and creating things. In my heart, I'm a story teller. Science is uncovering and telling true stories and art is uncovering and telling deeper truths. I love both. I'm a bit of a nerd and a bit of a geek.
I love Marvel and sci-fi stories. One of the first things I look for when I visit a new city is a comic book story. I love traveling and tasting a new city. I generally avoid the tourist areas and try to find the quite places where the city is it's genuine self where I can connect and take a little piece of it home with me.
If you enjoy my work or my stories, I live in a few different internet places.
