A Good Morning by curiousdoodler  Hats off Shirts off by curiousdoodler  Tiberius Portrait by curiousdoodler  Ambrose Feeds by curiousdoodler

1. Ti has been in the FBI since he was 17. He joined right out of high school and he has always been in the vampire hunting division.
2. Ti lives in a rough part of town. He could afford to live somewhere else, but he likes his neighborhood. It's where he grew up and it's quiet during the day when he sleeps.
3. Ti works 9pm to 5am and has since he was 17.
4. Ti is a fan of the work of a vampire art collective, particular a small sculpture and decorative weapons artist (he doesn't know the name of the artist or anything other than that he finds the pieces somewhat regularly and he really likes them). When they raid vampire nests he looks for pieces and takes them before they're put in evidence.
5. Ti doesn't have a car and never got a drivers license. He takes public transit everywhere he needs to go.
6. Ti put his sister through college on the money he's saved by living in a building with cheep rent and without car payments.
7. Ti was married and has two daughters. One is 18 and one is 20. The marriage didn't last because Ti's work hours were not conducive to family life. His relationship with his daughter has improved dramatically as they've gotten older and he goes for coffee with them every Saturday. His ex-wife was bitter about being left alone with two children (even before the divorce because he wasn't around to help during the day), but she remarried and is happy and no longer holds a grudge against Ti which also helped his relationship with his girls.
8. Ti should have a desk job on the day shift by now. No one has worked in his position as long as Ti has. They tried to transfer him to a day job once and almost had to fire him for tardiness and absence. He was moved back to the night shift.

I already tagged people so I'm not tagging again. Still will probably do some other characters

1. Lisa has been playing violin since she was eight. She's quite good but does not enjoy having an audience. Playing for herself helps her relax.
2. Lisa's parents are alive, but they were estranged from their daughter before she was turned into a vampire. Lisa was cut off from her family when she had Madeline. She got pregnant after a one night stand at a party and her parents wanted her to get rid of the baby. Lisa refused and her parents cut her off. They tried to reach out to her a couple years later, but Lisa didn't want them in her life if they didn't love Madeline from the second she was born.

3. Lisa grew up in an upper middle class home. Her parents are fairly well off.

4. Lisa has always lived in a major city.
5. Lisa is quiet but stubborn, see number 2.
6. Lisa doesn't like cats or dogs. She thinks they're more hassle then they're worth.
7. Lisa likes being a nurse in the ER. Before she had Madeline, she had planned on becoming a doctor, but when she suddenly became a single mother, she couldn't put in the time to become a doctor. As a nurse in the ER Lisa feels like she has more impact on saving patients than she would elsewhere in the hospital. She loves saving people.
8. Lisa has never been outside the US.

Writing Drawing and Plotting! Oh my!

Wed Mar 29, 2017, 5:59 PM
Journal

Hello my dear watchers! Time for another update!

Mountain Divide

Still chugging along on pages and updates! I made some changes to Patreon. Patreon is now one page ahead of the main website and you only have to be a $1+ patreon to get that extra page on Thursday every week! Other than that, not much new on the Mountain Divide front.

:fire: :fire: :fire:

Mountain Divide Update Schedule:

New Page on Patreon ($1 patreons): Thursday

New Page on Main Website (mountaindivide.thecomicseries.com) (FREE!): Saturday

New Page on DeviantArt: Monday

Mountain Divide - Chapter 1 - Cover Art by curiousdoodler Mountain Divide - Prelude Pg 1 by curiousdoodler Alternate Cover Art Mountain Divide by curiousdoodler

Star! IMPORTANT! DeviantArt is a page behind the main website and patreon, so if you want the latest and greatest page, you have to go to one of those sources.Star!

:fire: :fire: :fire:

Unfledged

I finished scripting out another arc of Unfledged :excited:. This is going to be a fun story to tell! Writing it is getting me pumped! There are still a lot of tangles I want to comb out before I got start working on pages, but I've still got quite a few Mountain Divide pages left to draw so I'm sure I'll be able to work out all the writing problems in plenty of time.
:fire: :fire: :fire:

Summer Fun!

The last thing I'm working on is a summer event! A major part of the event is going to be Patreon event. I'll be doing double uploads of Mountain Divide pages along with publishing all the rewards for all the tier levels (so if you wanted to pick one month to donate, that month even $1 patreons will get $10 rewards :D), but I also wanted to do something on DA. My husband is going to be out of town for two weeks and I was hoping to use that free time to do something fun with my subscribers! If anyone has any suggestions I'd be happy to hear them!

Projects Update

Tue Mar 21, 2017, 4:46 PM
Journal

Hello my fine watchers . I haven’t done one of these in a while, but I want to get back into the practice of doing regular project updates. As you may have noticed, Mountain Divide updates are chugging right along according to schedule! If you’re new, or just missed out on the schedule, it is as follows:

:fire: :fire: :fire:

New Page on Patreon ($5 patreons): Thursday

I have 57 pages left to draw of the second arc of Mountain Divide (second arc is titled Spotlight...I think) which will also be the planned ending for this run. That means I’ll have finished drawing all the pages for Mountain Divide in October this year. At my current post rate, I won’t finish posting pages until early 2019 (I know, way future talk!) :faint:.

With the light at the end of the tunnel in full view, I’ve started thinking about what to do next. I have another arc of Mountain Divide I’d like to write and draw, but I also want to give Unfledged (Lisa, Ambrose, and Ti), some love. What I am thinking I might do, is dive into Unfledged as soon as I finish drawing this arc of Mountain Divide. That would put a launch date around October 2018 (so I would be posting updates of both Unfledged and Mountain Divide for at least a couple months).

The encour arc of Mountain Divide is planned in my head and I want to write and draw it (honestly I could probably write and draw with Mountain Divide into infinity). I haven’t decided what to do with it yet. It would be hard to drawing for both Mountain Divide and Unfledged at the same time. I’ve been writing for Unfledged while I’m drawing Mountain Divide, but drawing concurrently would be much more difficult. I might do batch updates for subsequent Mountain Divide arcs. So rather than getting a page a week, you’d get twenty pages every couple of months.  Or maybe even a full arc post??? That would be a full 40 to 60 pages, but only once a year. This is over a year out so I’m just spit balling right now. Anyone who wants to weigh in, I’m open to suggestions! I wanted Mountain Divide to have clean ending after this arc, but I don’t want to let go of the story anger stressed

All that being said, I do have plans for the more immediate future. I am going to rehaul my patreon. Some of you maybe aware, I set up my patreon a while ago, but I haven’t really done much with it. That will end June 1st! I will be rewriting my reward levels with a lot of fun monthly goodies! Most importantly, I’ll be doing a patreon only double page posting event which will result in Patreon being four pages ahead of the main website and five pages ahead of DeviantArt.

I’ve been trying to work out a way to make this fair to everyone. As far as pages go, everyone will get to see the pages for free, eventually. Patreons will be able to see pages earlier, but if you are patient, you will always get a chance to see pages for free. I will also bring down the price to see pages through patreon from $5 to $1 a month. I will also start doing month downloadable content for the various donation levels. I will also start doing Unfledged content on Patreon. The downloads will be patreon only, although I might post heavily edited versions for free on DeviantArt. I haven’t decided yet.

I want this to be fair. I want patreons to get something special, but I don’t want to put my content behind a paywall either. After all, this is a free webcomic, but at the same time, I’m buying a house (yay :giggle:) and I’m currently not bringing in any money with my art. I found a gallery that will pay me to teach classes, but that would mean I have to cut back on the webcomics, etc. I don’t want to do that! So I’m going to take another swing at this patreon thing and I opened commissions. If I can meet or beat the price I’m being offered by the gallery I’ll be able to dedicated 100% of my art time to making fun stuff for the internet, but if I can’t I’m going to have to cut back and start working with the gallery.

So that’s everything going on in CuriousDoodler land right now. Any question, comments, or suggestions are more than welcomed! I’m going to try to start doing these updates on a weekly-ish basis again.

A watermark free version will be delivered upon receipt of payment.

NSFW work will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

I hope this all seems fair! If you're interested, please contact me in comments, through private message, or through my email: mary@curiousdoodler.com.

I definitely stole this idea from :iconsummer-peaches:. I put together a character personality quiz including a few of my characters from Mountain Divide and Lisa's story. The Plumchester P 1.5

4halfstars by curiousdoodler

20170204 113519 by curiousdoodler

Star! Reach-for-It-Ness

I constantly use my Plumchester P 1.5 (you can see I've worn away most of the letters). It is the first pen I reach for when I'm inking a piece. It is give a beautifully back line and offers a lot of control which I want in my art supplies. The nib is the perfect amount of flexible and firm. I can use my hand pressure to vary line thickness, but I don't get unintended line lumps from a slight change in pen pressure. My favorite use for this pen is on Bristol board with a Micron 005 for details. However, it can stand alone and hold it's own.

Star! Longlasting

I've had this since November (I think, I've lost my cards for October and November's Artsnacks boxes). I use this every day, and it is still as good as it was the day I got it. For context, I am gentle with my brush tip pens. However, after a couple months of use, the nib is usually bent or falling apart. This pen's nib looks and flows the same as it did on day one. The color is still as dark and perfect as it was when I first opened it. This pen is a tank!

Star! Ease to Use/Clean

This is a pen, so cleaning isn't an issue. I've never noticed it staining my hands, although my hands are usually stained with some art supply so I might not notice. It is incredibly easy to use! The Plumchester is the same size and weight of a micron pen, but has a matte finish which I like better. It's easy to grip and the familiar size is easy to manipulate. The sturdy nib and reliable ink flow leaves the art up to the artist. The pen will do what the artist wants!

Star! Plays Nice

This pen is fantastic for a sketchbook! Short of a heavy black puddle, the Plumchester rarely bleeds through the pages of my Mead Academia Sketchbook. The paper in my sketchbook is heavy weight, but most pens bleed through. It also dries quickly so it works well under other media. I've also used it to line not-quite-dry water based pieces and it did not feather.

Half Star Novelty

This pen only gets a half star for this category. It is another brush tip pen. As amazing as it is, it's still just one in the crowd of pens. I did give it half a star because I think it improves on previous brush pens I've used. The nib, as I've said, is amazing! It's firm and flexible and the ink is dark black, but doesn't bleed through the page. The product it's self isn't novel though. In defense of the Plumchester, I don't think it's supposed to be novel!

TL;DR

I absolutely love my Plumchester P 1.5, which I received in an Artsnacks box a few months ago. I am most impressed with the firm and flexible nib which allows the artist control over line width. The ink is dark and true black, but doesn't bleed through the page and the pen works well with other medium. My only minor qualm is that it isn't novel.

Mountain Divide : The Plan!

Sat Dec 31, 2016, 5:38 AM
Journal

Mountain Divide Launches on :excited: MONDAY :excited: on all locations, dedicated website, patreon and here.

On the dedicated website and patreon, eight pages should drop at midnight English time (provided I uploaded them right ^^;). On DA I will be uploading a page a day for ten days to get the full prelude up without flooding my watchers inbox with an eight page dump in one day.

AFTER LAUNCH DAY I will be posting one page a week!
On Patreon, these pages will go live on THURSDAY
On the dedicated website, they will go live on SATURDAY
On Deviant art, they will go live on MONDAY (that's the Monday after they're posted on the dedicated website).

This has been an incredible journey already guys and we're just now reaching the starting line! Thanks for being here with me! You have no idea how much your support, before I even have a single page out, has meant to me Tight Hug Squish Hug 2 - The Eye Poke Hug :doublehug: revamp Hug emoticon

I am excited to be writing this two weeks before launch day! Everything is in place and scheduled for launch on the Mountain Divide website. I also have my Society6 set up with posters and other fun merch if you want to check it out (my mom got me a Mountain Divide pillow for Christmas and it's my favorite thing ever, but I may be biased ^^;).
:flame:
I will be working out an update schedule for posting pages on DA as well, but I don't want to post a page dump here and spam my followers inbox. I might post page previews here with links to the full pages for those who are interested, but I haven't decided yet. Input is welcomed!
:flame:
As always, if you want to keep up with everything I'm doing, you're welcome to click through my website curiousdoodler.com

Mountain Divide - Update Time

Sun Nov 20, 2016, 12:10 PM
Journal

I have been working on pages non-stop lately. I'm so close! I only have six pages left in this arc! That puts me at a little fewer than 52 pages, but the next arc has more than 52 pages so it should only take two years to get both arcs up. I'm hoping to finish up first arc pages over Thanksgiving and I'll start formatting them and scheduling posts after that :excited:. Launch day is so close!

In addition to working on pages I've also been working on behind the scenes stuff. My redbubble and Society6 stores are live. They both have slightly different merch so check both of them out! If there's something in my gallery that you were hoping to see for sale let me know and I'll make it happen :D. Next I'm going to get Patreon up and running and I have to get my website all updated.

Here's a panel from a page that won't be out until the end of next year

Another Meme!

Journal

I was tagged by the lovely :iconsummer-peaches:

1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?

With this account, less than a year. With previous accounts, since about 2006.

 2. What does your username mean?

It's what I am. I'm a scientist, so I'm curious, but I am always creating art, so I'm a doodler :D

 3. Describe yourself in three words.

 curious, adventurous, responsible

4. Are you left or right handed?

Left.

5. What was your first drawing?

According to my mom, it was a spider.

 6. What is your favorite type of art to create?

Stories. Written, drawn, one scene or 100 pages. I love telling stories.

7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

I'd like to be able to use a more painterly style.

8. What was your first favorite?

In all my time on DA, I can't remember. On this account it was this piece:

Dante by KiyuMiyu

9. What type of art do you tend to favorite the most?

I like to favorite soft, slightly painterly, art with a good story behind it.

 10. Who is your all time favorite Deviant artist?

All time. I have no idea. Currently I'm pretty obsessed with :iconwildellie:

11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

I dunno.

12. How has a fellow Deviant impacted your life?

I don't know. I enjoy the art and stories deviants bring into my life.

13. What are your preferred tools to create art?

I like pencil and paper. For color I love digital art. I'm not very good with color so I like the ability to try a variety of combinations before getting it right. I'm growing fond of traditional inking throughout my participation in inktober.

14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

I like to draw at home, but I get inspiration for my drawing from life and especially travel (which I do a lot of).

 15. What is your favorite DeviantArt memory?

The first time I saw someone else  draw one of my characters. It was so exciting even though I requested it

Mountain Divide - Quick Update!

Sun Oct 16, 2016, 11:05 AM
Journal

I know I've gotten behind on these Journals ^^; I recently took on a new job at work and, although it's a great career move, it is KILLING my free  time! I have been maintaining my drawing schedule, but I don't have time to do much else :dead: remake. I posted a poll today to see what update schedule you'd like to see. Responding to that would be VERY helpful for me. I personally like Tuesday updates as a reader, but I can schedule updates so it doesn't matter to me what day I update.

I am 19 pages away from having a full buffer (one full year of pages at a page a week update pace). I also have worked out how I'm going to end the series. Each year I'll do one full arc (so about 52 page long arcs) for three years. I have other arcs I could write, but I think the three arcs I have planned will tell a good story and three years is a good amount of time to spend with the project. If all goes according to plan, I should be able to manage my job and a weekly update schedule without a single week of hiatus. We shall see how it goes :flowereager:

Here's your panel preview for the week

Chair Talk by curiousdoodler

1. What's you name?
Mia Taket

2. Do you know why you were named that?
I think my parents named me after a local legend of a woman named Miana.

3. Are you single or taken?
Single.

4. Have any abilities/powers?
*Shrugs* I've been told I'm a charismatic leader.

5. Stop being a Mary-Sue!
Um. Ok. Don't know what that means...

6. What's your eye color?
Green.

7. How about hair color?
Auburn.

8. Do you have any family members?
My mother and father have passed, but I have a brother, Alex, and a sister, Glenn.

9. Okay... how about pets?
Nope.

10. That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.
Being in prison would currently rate high on this list.

11. I see... do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
I am currently in prison so...no.

12. Have you hurt anyone in any way before?
Yes. I started a war. It lasted for three years. I hurt a lot of people.

13. Ever... killed anyone before?
...Yes.

14. What kind of animal are you?
A person?

15. Name your worst habit.
Starting a war.

16. Are you straight, gay, or bisexual?
*laughs* Gay. What an odd question.

17. Do you go to school?
I'm a bit beyond that stage in my life.

18. Ever wanna marry and have kids one day?
I don't think that's in the cards for me. I would have liked it if things had been different.

19. Do you have fangirls/fanboys?
I had people who were willing to follow me into battle and die for me. Does that count?

20. What are you most afraid of?
That everything I did was wrong and that none of those people needed to die.

21. What do you usually wear?
A prison uniform.

22. What's one food that tempts you?
*shrugs* I dunno. A good stew is good enough for me.

23. Am I annoying you?
I don't have anything better to do.

24. Well, it's not over!
Fantastic.

25. What class are you? (Low class, Middle class, High class)
Depends on what scale your talking about. Compared with the rest of the country, I'm solidly lower class, but since my entire province is lower class that doesn't mean much. Within the mountain province I'm actually pretty fortunate and I'd rate myself lower middle class.

26. How many friends do you have?
A few. Or at least I used. None of them are allowed to visit me though so I suppose I don't have any anymore.

27. What are your thoughts on pie?
It's a delightful treat?

28. Favorite drink?
Whiskey on the rocks.

29. What's your favorite place?
There's this place just after where the road runs out outside of town near Stonetower. You can sit on the mountain and look out over the city. I loved that spot.

30. Are you interested in anyone?
There'd be no point in it even if I was.

31. What's your favorite color?
Is it cheesy if I say green? The color of my home?

32. Was that a stupid question?
Yeah.

33. Would you rather swim in a lake or the ocean?
Lake. The ocean is too cold where I'm from.

34. Any fetishes?
Well if bondage was ever going to be one, it's been preemptively cured...

35. Camping or indoors?
Camping

The Problem with Dawn

Wed Sep 14, 2016, 5:54 PM
Journal

I have been meaning to write this journal for a while, but I haven't known how exactly I wanted to word it :writersblock: . I know at least a few of my watchers like Dawn and I want to explain why I'm not working more aggressively on her story.
(just a reminder, this is Dawn and Jon):
Night Cap by curiousdoodler

I have a few reasons for not working on this story. I've been playing with the Mia and Lily characters for much longer and have done a lot more writing with them Heart Love . Essentially, it's Mountain Divide's 'turn' to be told, but that's not the main reason I'm focusing on that story over this one. The main reason is three fold. I'm not read stylistic-wise, plot-wise, or content-wise.

Stylistic-wise is the smallest hurdle to this story in my mind. The image I have in my head for how i would like to tell this story does not match my current art style Asleep at the Keyboard . The closest image I have to what I would want pages of this story to look like would be the image at the end of this paragraph. I say this is the smallest hurdle because I know what I have to do to get my art to look the way I want it to look. I need to use more gradient shading, thinner lines, and use more detailed line art. Although this is a minor hurdle, I want to over come it before I start seriously writing and drawing this story.

In the Dark of the Night by curiousdoodler

Plot-wise is an import, but also easy to over come problem. I know the characters well and I know how they interact and the entirety of their back stories Nobu and Buno Choirla . I know the character arches and I know a lot of minor arches for this story Day10 - Frolic . Unfortunately, I have yet to establish an overall arch. I need a plot that links all the minor arches and drive the character development. I know how to fix this problem as well. All it takes is a little thought a lot a lot writing. If this were my only major problem, I would use Dawn's story as my NaNoWriMo project nanowrimo animation  (write a 50,000 word story in a month, I use this as a first draft for my comic writing more info at nanowrimo.org). Again, this is an important stumbling block and I don't want to go further with the story until I overcome it, but I know how to fix the problem.

Content-wise
is my major stumbling block. I love my characters Lovely Shoujo Emoji (Huggy Hug) [V2] . I know them as individuals and I know how they'd react in almost any situation. I think they play well against each other. The problem I have is that Dawn is dead slave from the 1800's, a rape survivor (sort of), black, Muslim, and has lived her entire life (and afterlife) in New Orleans. I am a white middle class woman from the East Coast who was raised in a Christian home and the most devastating event I have endured was the rupture of my appendix:unimpressed: ! I have no frame of reference for the many hardships she would face! Not to mention the fact that I have been to New Orleans once, for a week, in 2012. The disconnect between her life (and death) experiences and mine is enormous and I have NO IDEA how to overcome this dissonance. Despite how drastically different we are, I absolutely love Dawn and I truely want to tell her story, but I'm afraid I won't be able to do her character justice. Once I overcome this issue, I'll be able to start the long journey to writing this story, but until then I'm stuck Gloomy .

That is the problem with Dawn. I don't like the way I draw her, I don't know the overall plot, and I'm afraid I won't do the character justice. Anyone who has any advice for overcoming my cultural dissonance issue I would be eternally in your debt beg .
